I was wondering how long it would take for some religious personality to try to take advantage of the unspeakable tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. I was not disappointed. According to Mike Huckabee, the tragedy happened because we have taken God out of the schools. "We've systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools have become a place for carnage because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, responsibility, accountability?"
No, Mike. We should not be surprised when a gun owner is careless enough to leave multiple lethal weapons accessible to a young man with a long history of mental and emotional problems and bad things happen. If you are going to have a house full of guns, you must make sure that only those with the emotional stability and proper training can get their hands on them. Otherwise, you are begging for disaster. Don't be surprised whe disaster comes calling.
Of course I grieve for the victims and their families. I also grieve for the young man responsible for this horror. Our Father has a special place in His heart for children. Matthew 18:6-"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
I'm afraid that both the shooter and his mother have some hard lessons to learn. And our Father can be a rather stern teacher.
